The Local Characters of the Metal Age Culture in central Taiwan, and its Relationship with the Geometrical Impressed Ceramics in Taiwan’s Adjacent Areas
ABSTRACT
The Fan-Tsu-Yuan Culture is the main archaeological culture in central Taiwan during the Metal Age, divided into several phases by the archaeologists under the time-space framework. In this paper the author attempts to discuss, firstly, the characters and the variety of the Fan-Tsu-Yuan Culture based on the archaeological data from different sites, in order to reveal the diversity and the concordance among various sites in central Taiwan. Secondly, to explore the relationship between the Fan-Tsu-Yuan Culture and the cultures of adjacent areas characterized by geometrical impressed ceramics, and to unveil some possible influences from the South China Seas exchange networks.
